PHLA Film Spotlight: "16" an original documentary film by Kayla Gibson

This event will feature a screening of the film, a panel discussion with the film maker and opportunity for small group critical analysis of the magnet system, equity in the SDP and the role abolitionist pedagogy and anti-racist training can play.  Discussions led by students, educators and parents.

In a time where COVID-19 threatens to change the shape of traditional education forever, we Philly educators want to give parents and students additional options for a Black/Multiethnic centered learning.

“Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.”
